Puno is famous as the gateway to Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. This destination is known for the Uros floating islands, made of totora reeds, and the vibrant culture of the communities inhabiting the islands of Taquile and Amantaní. The lake, with its crystal-clear waters and clear skies, is a mystical place that has been home to Andean myths and legends. Puno is also famous for the colorful celebration of the Virgen de la Candelaria Festival, one of the largest festivities in Peru.
