Day 01 :

Cusco – Soraypampa – Humantay Lake – Soyroccocha

Early departure from Cusco toward the trailhead near Soraypampa.

Begin trekking through wide Andean valleys surrounded by snow-capped mountains. In the afternoon, hike up to the spectacular Humantay Lake, a brilliant turquoise glacial lagoon nestled beneath towering peaks.

Continue toward Soyroccocha campsite, located near the base of Salkantay Mountain. Enjoy dinner under a sky full of stars.

Day 02 :

Soyroccocha – Salkantay Pass (4,650 m) – Colpapampa

Wake early for the most challenging and rewarding day.

Ascend to the Salkantay Pass at 4,650 meters (15,255 ft), the highest point of the trek. From the summit, enjoy panoramic views of glaciers and rugged Andean landscapes.

Begin a long descent into warmer climates as the scenery gradually shifts from alpine terrain to cloud forest vegetation.

Arrive at Colpapampa, where you’ll camp surrounded by lush greenery and flowing rivers.

Overnight camping.

Day 03 :

Colpapampa – Hot Springs – Lucmabamba

After breakfast, continue descending through tropical valleys rich with fruit plantations, coffee farms, and vibrant flora.

In the afternoon, visit natural hot springs where you can relax your muscles after two intense trekking days.

Continue to Lucmabamba campsite, located in a fertile jungle valley known for coffee production.

Overnight camping or basic lodge.

Day 04 :

Lucmabamba – Llaqtapata Ruins – Aguas Calientes

Today offers one of the most scenic highlights of the trek.

Hike uphill along an original Inca trail to reach the archaeological site of Llaqtapata. From this unique vantage point, enjoy a rare panoramic view of Machu Picchu from across the valley — an unforgettable moment and incredible photo opportunity.

Descend toward Hidroelectrica and walk alongside the railway tracks through lush vegetation to Aguas Calientes.

Check into your hotel and rest before the big finale.

Day 05 :

Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

Rise early to catch one of the first buses to Machu Picchu and witness sunrise over the citadel.

Enjoy a guided tour exploring its terraces, temples, ceremonial plazas, and sacred structures while learning about Inca engineering and spirituality.

After the visit, return to Aguas Calientes for lunch (optional) and board the train back to the Sacred Valley, followed by transfer to Cusco.
